Candlebox hanging over the audience. Nebraska rap-rock kingpins have been laying low since (alleg- edly) beating the crap out of Scott Stapp in a hotel. Snoop has been doing anything but, as “Sexual Eruption” was the single of the winter and his much ballyhooed/highly bizarre coun- try collaboration with Everlast (“My Medicine”) is just around the corner. Blaze up, homies. This per- petually grinding epic applies organic and electronic embel- lishments to expertly realize the diary of a delusional mental patient who blames his wife’s murder on a fictional character living in an “eternal kingdom.” In Stores June 18. Nas Nas DE F JAM The album formerly known as, in various forms, N*gga and N*gger (minus the asterisks) is now just self-titled after Nas determined that certain storeowners could potentially withhold the music from his fans. It’s a shame, as the leg- endary MC has always favored depth over trite shock value, and undoubtedly has some- thing valuable to opine about the constantly shifting culture of the word, especially after the Don Imus and Dog the Bounty Hunter scandals. [ JULY 2008 + monitorTHIS! + 29 ] SNOOP DOGG+311 TOUR DE FORCE ou will be dumber after seeing this show. at’s not a dig at the artists so much as the cloud of, er, let’s say “bliss” Into the Sun S I L ENT MAJORI T Y GROUP No band eased the transition from grunge to pop better than Candlebox, which is ironic since they too hailed from Seattle, where the “Big Four” dabbled in more esoteric influences, from punk (Nirvana) to classic rock (Pearl Jam) to heavy metal (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden). Original P-Jam timekeeper Dave Krusen handles the skins on this record, hot on the heels of their recently released best- of compilation. In Stores July 22. The Melvins Nude With Boots IPECAC It was strange, but ulti- mately natural that Melvins icons Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover hooked up with Seattle sludge two-piece Big Business (frontman Jared Warren and drummer Coady Wills) for 2006 behemoth (A) Senile Animal. Despite the age differential, the two camps share similar aes- thetic affections for the blister- ing and bizarre. We’re excited to see what the “lefty-righty” drum combo can accomplish with two additional years of practice together. In Stores July 8.
